Done With My Board Exam!
Hello all! I spent most of the week getting ready for my Family Medicine Board exam and spent most of Friday taking it. I feel quite confident I passed and will get the official word in a couple weeks.
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a model that helps patients get better care by removing 3rd party companies like insurance companies. Insurance companies can often deny paying for certain treatments or lab studies and working directly with a doctor eliminates that problem. Direct Primary Care also affords patients more access to doctors. Read our DPC articles here.
Hello all! I spent most of the week getting ready for my Family Medicine Board exam and spent most of Friday taking it. I feel quite confident I passed and will get the official word in a couple weeks.
Why am I so tired every day?
Why do I snore?
Why is my sleep so restless?
If you find yourself asking these questions, you might have sleep apnea.
Last week I wrote about young healthy people who often don’t see the doctor (even when they should). I have been one of those. But young people need doctors too. During my family medicine residency I found myself avoiding the doctor because:
Ellie Krieger is one of my favorite nutritionist chefs, and I love the recipes in her cookbook, So Easy. One of my favorite dishes in this book is Chicken with Warm Tomato-Corn Salad.
One of the common questions I’ve been getting goes something like this: “I get why direct primary care would be great for older and sicker people, but I’m young and healthy… Why should I pay a DPC doctor a monthly fee to be their patient if I’m not going to need to see them all the time?”
With Direct primary care (DPC), the primary care doctor is paid an affordable monthly fee that covers a broad set of primary care services, about 90% of everything needed for the patient’s health.
In my last post, I told you why I love primary care. It was a picture of what primary care could and should be. When primary care works well, it helps patients to stay healthy and happy.

I am one of the two new doctors joining DirectMed DPC and will be the first in the New Braunfels area. I am beyond excited! I love being a doctor. It is an honor, and a privilege to play such a personal role in the lives of fellow human beings.
DirectMed’s Dr. Katriny Ikbal and Neer Patel were recently invited to the “My DPC Story” podcast!
