Over-the-counter remedies are a huge relief for the majority of allergy sufferers. Antihistamines like Allegra, Zyrtec, Claritin and Benadryl are helpful for minor allergy symptoms. Nasal steroid sprays like Nasacort are helpful for the maintenance of allergy symptoms as well.
Prescription medications include nasal steroids such as Nasonex, Flonase, and Dymista, which all can be expensive items. Prescription Singular is also helpful for chronic allergies and asthma symptoms.
Systemic steroids or the “steroid shot” may provide temporary relief, but is not always the best long term option and has side effects and contraindications to use.
